re: Raider Expectations

Raider Expectations:

In addition to adhering to the two main guild rules, raiders will be expected to do the following:

Download and update required mods: We maintain a short list of addons that you must run. This includes interrupt announcers, boss mods, note sharing mods and raid frames. We do expect everyone to have raid frames on screen, even if they are small to be aware of what's going on.

Be in Discord mobile, or Check the forums regularly: We need to be able to give you heads up on cancelled raids, or ask you to brush up on a fight. Having discord installed on your phone means we can send you a push notification with an @. If you don't want to install Discord on your phone, you should check the forums a couple times a week.

Be in Discord Voice: You should always be logged in to Discord at least 5 minutes before pull time. We would really prefer that you have a working microphone and may in some cases require that you be able to speak.

Know your class: You are expected to do whatever research or theorycrafting is required to maximize your performance in your chosen role. Do not expect the raid leader or another guild member to teach you how to play. You should always know: the best spec for your role, the best spell rotation for your spec, and strategies for maximizing your performance on any given fight. You should also prepare your own best-in-slot gear list and be aware of which pieces of gear will be the best upgrade for you.

Gem and enchant your gear: You should gem and enchant every piece of gear that you can.

Do your homework: We expect that you will study strategies and videos for boss fights prior to showing up for the raid. While the raid leader will provide a quick review of boss abilities on progression nights, you should already be familiar with the mechanics of the fight and how they affect your role.

Do your job: You must follow the raid leader’s directions. Even if you disagree with a strategy, we need you to do what is asked, since nothing will get accomplished if we aren’t all working together. If you have a suggestion, you can either whisper a raid assist or council member, or you can post your suggestion under the raid discussion forum after the raid.

Have a thick skin: If the thought of having your name called out in Discord makes you a little sick inside, then this may not be the guild for you. While we insist that raid members be treated respectfully, we will on occasion need to call people out if they aren’t following directions or are doing something incorrectly. Likewise, we will analyze logs after raids and individual names may come up in our efforts to find ways to improve. You must be able to handle and benefit from criticism. Please keep in mind that criticism of your performance has nothing to do with criticizing you as a person. No one is picking on you because they don’t like you; rather, they’re pointing out things you can improve in order to help the raid as a whole progress.

Put the raid before yourself: Every raider should have the interest of the raid as a priority. This means that if the raid is clearly struggling because we need more healers and you are the lowest dps with no unique buffs, you should not whine if we swap you out to bring in another healer. Similarly, if you are having a bad night and just can’t seem to perform your job, you may be asked to step out; we expect that you will do so willingly in order to help the raid. Again, this isn’t because we hate you; it’s because we need to fix a problem that is hindering progression.

Help Sal: Every raider should be willing to help Sal off any complicated playground equipment that may prove too advanced for his understanding. Remember this--it's important!

Be on time: Raid invites begin fifteen minutes before raid time. Please be in the instance ready to go at the time the raid is supposed to begin. If you have to miss a raid, please post on the forums to let us know as far in advance as you can.

Don’t waste the raid’s time: Spontaneous afk breaks are not acceptable. Please plan to have your dog walked, your kids fed, and any other personal responsibilities taken care of before the raid. Everyone has an occasional emergency that draws them away from the game unexpectedly, but repeat afk’s will be grounds for having your raider status revoked.

Maintain solid attendance: Because we do not want to recruit for the bench, we need everyone to show up regularly. Our success is largely dependent on maintaining a consistent raid roster; that means that we need everyone to have near 100% attendance. If you miss a raid without notifying anyone (except in the case of extreme emergencies), you will be issued a warning. If you miss a second raid without notifying us in advance, you will have your raider status revoked. If your attendance becomes a problem we reserve the right to remove you from the roster.

Play your spec: You were recruited to fill a certain role. If you would like to switch your main spec or main character, you must appeal to the raid leader and council. Spec or character switches will only be approved if they are in the interest of the raid. Do not simply switch your main spec and show up to a raid expecting a spot for your new role. For those people who were recruited to be able to fill two roles, please bring gear and consumables for both roles to every raid.
